My natural anxieties about getting older are probably what made August seem so…I don’t know…amplified?

That being said, I did have quite a good month, broke-ness and personal life issues notwithstanding. The 19th was my birthday and despite a pretty crappy end note, I had a fantastic time celebrating my birthday and attending the launch of the Slice Magazine.

Post-birthday, I entered a minor spiral of darkness with imposter syndrome weighing heavily on my psyche and the stress of trying to rationalise the apparent end of a close friendship (more on that on a later date).

Despite all of this, I kept breakdowns on a minimum concentrating instead on a string of awesome opportunities related to my work with The Slice Magazine. We made appearances on Times TV, MBC Radio 2 and Capital FM. (I promise I will blog about this very soon)

One more notable win: I finally received my results from last semester’s exams and I am very happy and quite honestly shocked to have maintained a Distinction. If I’m not careful, I might develop an unnecessary affliction that wants to keep this distinction streak going and believe me, that won’t be good for anybody (except future me and her career prospects but you know me – always thinking short term!)

Notable fail: I did not even come close to completing the 100 Days of Content challenge.

Word of the month: screech

AUGUST OBSESSIONS

TV

Game of Thrones (obviously!)

Like many fans, I had issues with the pacing of the season and quite honestly think it’s one of GOT’s weaker seasons story wise. But goddammit it delivered on spectacle and fan service! The (battles) are some of the best I’ve experienced from television and I just can’t wait til season 8 comes through! (let me set a reminder not to die anytime soon)

Full Metal Alchemist

Turns out Death Note is the perfect gateway drug into Anime. I binged Full Metal Alchemist over a couple of days. I only had 59 episodes out of the 64 though. I had to wikipedia the rest of the narrative lol. Such is life as a TV addict in Malawi. After viewing, I learned there’s a movie adaptation coming out and I’m so stupidly excited to see this glorious anime in live action.

Sherlock (Season 1 – Season 3 ish)

Like Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, I only had a couple of seasons of Sherlock. The hype around the series and Benedict Cumberbatch sort of went over my head but it was always somewhere on my to-watch list. I really didn’t expect the show to be this way (oh tumblr gifs, how you failed me!) and the part of me that is an ultimate Elementary fan didn’t expect to enjoy it, but I did. Perhaps not as amazing as all the cumberbitches led me to believe but very good nonetheless.

MOVIES

Wonder Woman

Finally, finally! After living off saucy YouTube trailers and Wonder Woman memes, I finally got to see the movie itself. Ugh. IT WAS EVERYTHING! I laughed, I cried, I googled black girls cosplaying as Wonder Woman. More female-centred superhero movies please. I demand Black Widow and Jubilee features immediately. Come on, Marvel.

I wasn’t as hyped as the internet about this movie but it totally blew me away with its…*groans forever*…beauty. I’m gonna watch this every time I need a good cry.

Only thing I can say about this album is that it’s too real.

I remember clearly being unable to like Perfect Pint when its video came out but after a couple of listens I was won over. I really like the rest of the album too.

★ Bodak Yellow by Cardi B

Like everyone else, I’m absolutely in love with Cardi’s smash hit. She also has one of the most hilarious personalities around. Disagree with her or agree, I just love her to bits.

BOOKS

Zilch. Again. *Goes cry in a corner*

And that was my August!

It’s definitely a little too late to be asking but how was your August? Let me know in the comments!
