Hey lovelies, welcome to my weekly link roundup where I share (somewhat random) thoughts, posts, articles and tidbits that I found on the Internets that I would love to share with you:

thoughts:

I Never Learn

The other day, I sat across from a boy and felt our foundation shake. I had pictured this so differently. I was supposed to tell him about what’s happened. About my tooth which I uprooted accidentally by chewing gum (go figure). About my phoenix shit. About my sister. About my mother in pain and myself in pieces. I had a joke about sexual tension and fancy words about the clinical way we speak now. I know it’s my fault but you could have just asked me. There was a book in my bag I was supposed to give him but now he can never read it. And that’s not my fault, that’s on you. I thought of Daisy and beautiful little fools and I accepted our denouement.

I sat across from the boy and an old master commanded me. Cold. Hard. Automaton.

You were right to question why I’d want you. I rationalize that I didn’t but I’m not too sure. Are you an idea or a liar? Unreal, like a dream. Like dude, it’s okay, but fuck you.

15 Things to check out this week!

I was so happy to hear about the film ‘Rafiki’ being temporarily unbanned (is this a word?) in Kenya.

Synopsis: “Good Kenyan girls become good Kenyan wives,” but Kena and Ziki long for something more. Despite the political rivalry between their families, the girls resist and remain close friends, supporting each other to pursue their dreams in a conservative society. When love blossoms between them, the two girls will be forced to choose between happiness and safety.

I love the trailer and really hope it ends up on Netflix.

A Unified Theory Of Keira Knightley is a pleasurable ode to the actress

As per my thoughts above, I’m increasingly drawn to music that lends itself to wistfulness and poking self-inflicted wounds. And that’s mostly been Lykke Li.

Also, how have I been listening to this track for four years and not known about A$AP Rocky’s remix until this week? (Sidenote: the way A$ap says “pretty motherfucker” should be packaged as an anti-depressant cos sis DAMN)

Also also, the E-Dubble (RIP) remix is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

✩ This week I started a new internship that mostly encompasses me working from home. Vogue says this is how I can do it better.

What It’s Like To Date Someone Who’s In An Open Relationship

The winning photographs of Getty Images’ annual photojournalism grant are stunning!

✩ Cardi B in Michael Costello is WIG! Bitch, mine is levitating! This is a LEWK!

Every adult should have a bedtime. (I feel so vindicated for ending up in slumber by 9pm almost every night).

In a very worthwhile long read, comedian Rob Delaney shares his experience of his son’s cancer.

An Emotional Guide to Being Ghosted (hopefully not after she took my advice and took you to Gelato Carnival)

I can’t get ‘Dear You‘ by Tina out of my head. Don’t let your bones be a mixture of anger and marrow…she writes. First of all, don’t tell me what to do (!) and second of all, how dare her pierce me with words ?!

Also, her blog of poetry and musings is a delight.

✩ Here’s a list of 50 books that influenced Leo Tolstoy according to the man himself.

✩ Lastly, All My Exes Live in Texts was my favourite read last week.
