My name is Angasa Salome. I’m a humourist, storyteller and blogger from Blantyre, Malawi. I’ve been telling stories, in one form or another, since girlhood and I love it so much that I guess you could say it’s my calling.
Although born in Blantyre one August evening in the year 1994, I spent most of my childhood in Lilongwe and the pre-adolescent years at Tukombo Girls Secondary School in Nkhata-Bay. When I was 14, I moved with my family to Norwich, England where I lived until I was 20. I came back home in 2014 and began college the following year. I now mostly reside in Blantyre.
When I was twenty-one I self-published my debut novel, Tender Underneath, a coming of age story about a high school senior trying to honour her grandfather by surviving her final year of torture at Drayton High School (you can read the synopsis here).
Unfortunately, in my eagerness to put out my work, the condition of the eBook was a little subpar. So I took it down and I’m in the final stages of reworking it for re-release in 2020 – the right way this time!
Since then, I have continued to write here and there, most prominently for the inaugural Pen Avenue Malawi short story competition (which I won!) You can read the story over here. I have also written articles/content for Times Media Group, The Slice Magazine and Creative Menace.
However, most of my time has been busy at The University of Malawi – The Polytechnic where I am pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. As I write this, I feel a bit like a workaholic because, upon this hill of work, I must add that I also work as a freelance writer and proofreader/editor. (PS: I am always up for a gig!)
Before all this ever came to be, however; I was a 14-year-old girl with a penchant for words and crafting them. I followed that arrow and it led me here. Pastiche Mode has technically only been around since 2017, when I decided to half-heartedly commit to keeping an online diary. The reality, however, is that a version of what I now proudly call my corner of the internet has been alive since 2008 – when I first discovered the wonderful art of blogging.
I also have a monthly newsletter than you can subscribe to in order to get the latest news and updates from Pastiche Mode, straight to your inbox! You can sign up here.
Also, I am but a poor black child. I’m just kidding, Steve Martin is. But if you like my blog and want to support me by buying me a
beer (*wink wink*) data bundle or coffee, you can totally do that here.
